Jack Tamburri

Jack Tamburri is a Lecturer of Theatre Arts at Purchase College State University of New York, where he served as Director of the Conservatory of Theatre Arts from 2019 to 2024. He holds an AB from the University of Chicago and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. His work focuses on directing, playwriting, and innovative theatre practices, including community-based projects and experimental performances. Notable creations include Peer GYNT & the Norwegian Hapa Band, School Play, and queer clown solo I Was Confused From the Beginning. Tamburri emphasizes collaboration with playwrights and interdisciplinary approaches to theatre.

He has developed new plays with prominent writers like R. Eric Thomas and David Jacobi, and co-created fringe comedies Not For Profit and GAYZE. His training includes ArtEquity’s national facilitator program for anti-racist practices in the arts. Tamburri teaches courses such as Making New Plays and Directing I, fostering creativity in emerging artists.
