Jack Knight is the Frederic Cleaveland Distinguished Professor of Law and Political Science at Duke University, holding joint appointments in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences (Political Science) and the School of Law. His research focuses on modern political and legal theory, judicial decision-making, and political economy. Knight earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
Key research interests include judicial motivations, social identity in judging, democratic theory, and the political economy of institutions. His recent work addresses diversity in courts, equity, and the intersection of law with socio-political dynamics. He has authored influential books such as Institutions and Social Conflict and The Choices Justices Make, and co-edited volumes on courts and political theory.
