Jack Burns (he/him) is a Part-time Assistant Professor at Parsons School of Design within The New School. He is a strategic designer with expertise in entrepreneurship, education, and sustainable fashion. Burns founded Genusee, a circular-economy eyewear company, and has been mentored by XRC Labs, Fjord, and IDEO. His academic roles span over five years at Parsons, complemented by a Master's in Transdisciplinary Design (2022) and a BFA in Fashion Design (2014), both from Parsons.
His research focuses on Design Futures, Circular Economy, and Systems, emphasizing unlearning and waste reduction. Burns has presented at global forums like the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum, the CFDA Education Summit, and the Global Brands Group Sustainability Conference. He is a board member of Genusee, a member of the CFDA+, and affiliated with XRC Labs.
Burns has received accolades including the CFDA Elaine Gold Launch Pad (2018), United Nations Global Arts (2017), and the Louis Vuitton Reconstruction 3.0 First Prize (2013). His work bridges design strategy with sustainability, showcased in media outlets like ABC News, Vogue, and The New York Times. He mentors through the Impact Entrepreneurship Initiative and teaches courses like Digital Studio & Branding and Systems & Strategies.
Notable projects include leveraging Flint’s discarded water bottles for Genusee’s eyewear, featured in over a dozen publications. Burns advocates for systems thinking and participatory methods to drive sustainable change in fashion and beyond.
