Associate Professor Jacinta O'Hagan is a scholar at the University of Queensland within the School of Political Science and International Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. A former Irish diplomat, she has held academic roles at the Australian National University and visiting fellowships at institutions including the University of Southern California and MIT.
- Research Interests: Culture and international relations, civilizational politics, humanitarian diplomacy, international society, and digital media’s role in political violence.
- Teaching: International history, humanitarianism, and cultural dimensions of world politics.
Recent Work Trends focus on decolonizing international relations theory, civilizational discourse, and the ethics of humanitarian intervention. Her publications span journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes.
Supervision: She has supervised PhD projects on topics including historical cultural diversity regimes, humanitarian effectiveness in Nigeria, and Indonesia’s refugee policy.
Funding: Past support includes the 2002 UQ New Staff Research Start-Up Fund for studies on the culture of humanitarianism.
