Prof. Dr. hab. Jacek Jemielity is a faculty member at the University of Warsaw, affiliated with the Faculty of Physics and holding a position in the Division of Biophysics. He leads the Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry at the Centre of New Technologies, focusing on the chemical synthesis, properties, and therapeutic applications of modified nucleotides and RNA structures.
- Education: M.Sc. (1997) and Ph.D. (2002) in Organic Chemistry from the University of Warsaw, followed by a habilitation in 2012.
His research spans Nucleotide Chemistry, RNA Modification, and Biophysics, with a focus on mRNA cap analogs resistant to enzymatic degradation, fluorescent RNA labeling, and 19F NMR applications. He has pioneered methods for stabilizing mRNA and developing inhibitors of decapping enzymes.
The 15 most recent articles highlight trends in mRNA therapeutics, fluorescent probes, and structure-activity relationships of cap analogs. Key subfields include phosphorothioate modifications, bioorthogonal labeling, translation regulation, and anticancer strategies via RNA delivery.
He has received multiple scientific awards, including the University of Warsaw Rector's Award (2011) and the Rector Grzegorz Białkowski Award (2008). Current Ph.D. students include Hai Van Nguyen and Tomasz Śpiewla. His lab collaborates with institutions like the Institute of Experimental Physics and the Centre of New Technologies.
