Jaap Timmer is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture, specializing in Cultural Anthropology. His research focuses on cultural change, temporalities, political theology, and religious rhetoric in the Pacific and Southeast Asia. He holds a PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen (2000) and has held fellowships at institutions like the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (2021–2023) and the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (2006).

Teaching: Courses include Religion in the Contemporary World, Anthropology of Law, and Pacific Cultures. Active in curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaborations.
