Andria Dale Timmer is an Associate Professor at Christopher Newport University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology, the Center for Crime, Equity, and Justice Research and Policy, and the Center for Sustainability in Education. She holds a PhD in Anthropology and an MPH in Community Health from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Timmer specializes in applied cultural anthropology with a focus on political/legal anthropology and humanitarianism. Her research explores social change through NGOs, refugee issues in the EU and US, and food systems. Recent work analyzes NGO-state dynamics, gender in governance, and Roma educational equity.
Her publications examine religious neoliberalism in poverty relief, Hungarian state-NGO conflicts, and battlefield heritage. She has presented at academic conferences on historical memory and humanitarian responses to migration crises. Dr. Timmer teaches courses in cultural anthropology, qualitative methods, and refugee experiences.
