Jaana Porra is an Associate Professor in the Decision and Information Sciences Department at the University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College of Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics (Information Systems) from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, along with an M.Sc. in Economics and an MBA. Her career spans academia and industry, including roles at UC Berkeley, USC, and the University of Texas at Austin, where she contributed to research centers like the Annenberg Center and Haas School of Business. Porra's research focuses on information systems history, qualitative methods, AI ethics, and the long-term societal impact of IT. She developed the historical research method for IS, emphasizing narrative-driven analysis. Her work also explores organizational IT governance, e-commerce strategies, and sustainable virtual communities. Porra has advised over 100 experiential learning projects for Houston nonprofits and businesses, earning a Teaching Excellence Award for Community Engagement. She served on the Association for Information Systems council, initiating Latin American outreach, and received the ESCH Community Service Award for her service.
