Jaana Kovalainen is a Researcher and PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law, University of Lapland. She is part of the Law, Technology and Sustainability Transitions doctoral program and the Discipline-Specific Doctoral Programme. She also serves as Administrative Director (2023–present).

She explores the service principle of good governance through technological solutions (AI, AR) and user-centric approaches (UX/CX). She has led projects such as Potilaiden oikeuksien ja asianmukaisen palvelun toteutumista terveydenhoitojärjestelmässä käsittelevä väitöskirjatyö (2020–ongoing) and a research exchange at the University of Bologna (2023). Recent activities include presentations at the European Association of Health Law and NorDoc Summer School.
