Prof. Dr. JAM (Jan) Langermans is a Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University, affiliated with the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Animals in Science & Society research group. His academic role focuses on animal welfare, non-human primate research, and biomedical applications. He is the Chair of the Welfare of Laboratory Animals and has held roles such as Deputy Director at BPRC (Biomedical Primate Research Centre).
His research emphasizes microbiome analysis, infectious disease modeling (e.g., SARS-CoV-2), and vaccine development. Notable projects include studies on primate gut microbiota, immune response imaging, and environmental enrichment programs for laboratory animals.
