Prof. J.S.Hill Gaston is a Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Cambridge and Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine at St. Edmund’s College. He holds affiliations with the British Society for Rheumatology and the Arthritis Research Campaign. His career includes medical training at Lincoln College, Oxford, followed by research fellowships at Bristol and Stanford University. His research focuses on immunological mechanisms in rheumatic diseases and the interplay between infection and immunity, with an emphasis on T cell biology and cellular immunology.
Prof. Gaston’s research team explores T cell cloning, autoimmunity, and pathogen-specific immune responses. He has held prestigious fellowships, including from the Wellcome Trust and Medical Research Council. Awards include FRCP and FMedSci. Beyond academia, he is an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Cambridge and engages in community roles like past churchwarden.
