معرفی
J.P. Gerdt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington. His research focuses on the molecules driving interkingdom symbioses, particularly in systems involving bacteria, choanoflagellates, and pathogens like Plasmodium falciparum (malaria).
Education:
- B.S. in Chemistry (2008), University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, advised by Scott Silverman
- Ph.D. in Chemistry (2014), University of Wisconsin–Madison, advised by Helen Blackwell
- Postdoctoral Fellow (NIH-funded), Jon Clardy Lab, Harvard Medical School (2014–2017)
Research Themes: Chemical biology of microbial communication, interkingdom chemical signaling, and drug discovery targeting infectious diseases. His work bridges organic synthesis, biochemistry, and molecular biology to understand and manipulate signaling pathways in pathogenic systems.
Awards: Ruth L. Kirschstein NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship (2014–2017).
Lab: The Gerdt Laboratory investigates symbiotic interactions through chemical mechanisms, with applications in understanding parasitic infections and host-microbe communication.
