J.E. ten Elshof is a Full Professor of Inorganic & Hybrid Nanomaterials Chemistry at the University of Twente's Faculty of Science and Technology. He leads the Inorganic Materials Science group within the Nano Electronic Materials department and is affiliated with the MESA+ Institute. His research focuses on nanoscale metal oxide materials, energy storage systems (Li batteries/supercapacitors), and molecular separation membranes like the patented HybSi® technology.
- Founder of Flexiramics (2015) for ceramic nanofiber commercialization
- Former Programme Director of Chemical Science and Engineering (CSE) bachelor/master programs (2018–2023)
- Key expertise: Solution-processed oxide thin films, nanosheets, and material synthesis under extreme conditions
Research highlights include the 2007 HybSi® membrane breakthrough and ongoing work in solar cells/thermal storage materials. Teaches materials science across multiple engineering programs.
