J. Mark Cline, DVM, PhD is a Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine with multiple appointments across Comparative Medicine, Pathology, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Radiation Oncology, and Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He serves as Director of the NIH/NIAID Primate Radiation Survivor Core and Principal Investigator of a DOD/CDMRP Focused Program, while also directing an NIH T32 training program. His extensive affiliations include the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Sciences Center, Center for Precision Medicine, Hypertension and Vascular Research Center, and Center for Vaccines at the Extremes of Aging.
Dr. Cline earned his BS, DVM, and PhD from North Carolina State University in 1982, 1986, and 1992 respectively, followed by an Anatomic Pathology Residency at New York State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. His research program focuses on radiation effects, cancer risk, and progression using experimental models, with particular expertise in nonhuman primate models of cancer and radiation injury.
His laboratory has developed significant expertise in radiation biodosimetry, cancer immunotherapy, and comparative pathology. The Primate Cancer Initiative, which he directs, conducts national outreach to primate research facilities to identify and treat naturally-occurring cancers in nonhuman primates using novel immunotherapy approaches. His work bridges veterinary and human medicine, with high translational value for both human cancer patients and nonhuman primate subjects.
