J. Ellen Gainor is a Professor in the Department of Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She specializes in British and American drama of the 19th and 20th centuries, with a focus on women's dramaturgy. Her work bridges academic research and practical theatre, evidenced by her roles as literary advisor to the Mint Theater and Metropolitan Playhouse, and collaborations with institutions like the Shaw Festival and National Theatre in England.
Research interests include feminist theatre criticism, women playwrights, and the intersection of theatre with cultural politics.
