Dr Ivonne Solis-Trapala is a Reader in Biostatistics and Director of the Keele Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) at Keele University's School of Medicine. She leads the UKCRC-registered CTU, overseeing clinical trials and cohort studies with a multidisciplinary team. Her expertise includes advanced statistical methods like graphical models and multistate modeling, applied to health services research, oncology, and global mental health. She serves as Co-Director of the NIHR Research Support Service Hub and contributes to the WHO’s GSED project for early childhood development evaluation. She chairs Trial Steering Committees and sits on Health Technology Assessment committees.
Education: PhD in Statistics (University of Cambridge), MRC Fellowship in Biostatistics at Lancaster University. Formerly led biostatistics at MRC Human Nutrition Research, Cambridge.
Research focuses on causal graphical models for real-world evidence analysis, multistate modeling in renal and oncology studies, and global health policy tools. Key projects include the BISTRO trial on dialysis fluid management and the Inter-CEPt study addressing home dialysis uptake disparities. Over £29M in grants from NIHR, MRC, and international bodies.
Teaching: Supervises PhD/MPhil students in biostatistics and medical sciences. Advising includes medical doctoral students. Active in communication skills training for healthcare professionals in oncology and genetics.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Keele CTU and collaborates globally, including WHO initiatives and EU-funded projects like Horizon 2020. Her team develops statistical methodologies impacting clinical practice and policy in nephrology and global health.
