Roles and Affiliations: Ivelin Georgiev is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology; Computer Science; and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He serves as Director of the Vanderbilt Program in Computational Microbiology and Immunology and Associate Director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology, and Inflammation. He previously held roles at the NIH Vaccine Research Center.
Education: Received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Duke University. Professional training includes positions at the NIH Structural Bioinformatics Core Section.
Research Focus: Dr. Georgiev’s work bridges computational methods with experimental immunology and virology. Key areas include computational immunology, virology, vaccine development, and structure-based protein design. His lab focuses on understanding antibody-antigen interactions, designing immunogens for HIV, RSV, and coronaviruses, and leveraging AI for antibody discovery.
Key Projects: Development of LIBRA-seq technology for high-throughput antibody profiling, design of mosaic nanoparticle vaccines, and studies on antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 and HIV. His lab also explores the dynamics of neutralizing antibodies in viral infections.
Labs and Teams: Leads the Georgiev Lab at the Vanderbilt Vaccine Center, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in computational biology, structural biology, and clinical research.
