Ivar Sakk

Ivar Sakk is a Professor of Graphic Design at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA), serving as Department Head from 2005 to 2015. He holds a PhD in Graphic Design (2012) for his work on typography history, resulting in the publication Aa kuni Zz, which earned a bronze medal at the 2013 Best Book Design competition. His research focuses on design history, graphic design theory, and visual communication.

Education:

• 1986: Graduated from the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (Industrial Art)

Professional Contributions: Sakk’s design work has been featured in Novum, Graphis, and Communication Arts, alongside exhibitions at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Warsaw Poster Museum, and others. His posters and articles explore Estonian design heritage and contemporary graphic practices.

Grants & Recognition: Awarded the 2013 Best Book Design bronze medal for Aa kuni Zz, a seminal work on typography history.
