Ivana Bozic is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington and an affiliate faculty member in the Herbold Computational Biology Program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She holds a BSc and MA in Mathematics from the University of Belgrade (Serbia) and a PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University. Her research focuses on mathematical and computational modeling of cancer evolution, integrating clinical and experimental data to understand tumor dynamics, therapeutic resistance, and early cancer detection.
Key research interests include:
- Cancer evolution modeling
- Stochastic processes in oncogenesis
- Immunotherapy dynamics
- Clonal evolution tracking
- Personalized treatment decision support systems
Recent work emphasizes CAR T-cell therapy optimization, clonal interactions in leukemia, and multiplicative effects of early-stage cancer on cell-free DNA. Her 2023 Akira Okubo Prize recognizes contributions to mathematical biology, particularly in oncology.
Advisees include Dr. Nathan Lee (PhD 2022) and Dr. Katherine Owens (PhD 2022). Active grants include NSF CAREER funding for branching process models in colorectal cancer detection. Collaborations span the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, leveraging computational biology expertise to translate theoretical models into clinical applications.
Key platforms include the TTP (Tool for Tumor Progression) software and ultra-deep mutational analysis frameworks. Current projects explore evolutionary landscapes of CLL under targeted therapies and spatial-temporal tumor-CAR T-cell interactions in solid cancers.
