Ivan Tancevski

Ivan Tancevski serves as Professor of Experimental Pulmonology at the Medical University of Innsbruck within the Faculty of Medicine and University Clinic for Internal Medicine II. His clinical practice encompasses severe asthma, COPD, interstitial lung diseases, cardiovascular conditions, autoimmune disorders, cystic fibrosis, and infectious diseases including COVID-19.

He obtained his medical degree from the University of Innsbruck and completed specialized residency training in internal medicine and pulmonology. His clinical expertise extends to managing complex cases at the intersection of pulmonary and immune-mediated diseases.

Dr. Tancevski's research centers on cardiopulmonary diseases and innate immunity, with seminal contributions to understanding post-COVID conditions. He pioneered the world's first prospective study tracking long-term outcomes in COVID-19 survivors and serves as key contributor to the international COVID Human Genetic Effort (COVIDhge) consortium, which investigates genetic predispositions to severe viral respiratory infections. His work integrates clinical pulmonology with immunological and genetic research to develop targeted therapeutic strategies for high-risk patients with respiratory disorders.

Through ongoing collaborations in the COVIDhge consortium—the largest global research initiative on COVID-19—he continues to explore the genetic architecture of severe disease manifestations. His future research directions focus on translating immunological discoveries into personalized treatment approaches for patients with asthma, COPD, and post-viral syndromes, emphasizing the role of innate immunity in disease progression.
