معرفی
Dr. Ivan Matic is a Research Group Leader and Head of the Proteomics Core Facility at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany. His research focuses on protein modifications, particularly ADP-ribosylation, and their roles in DNA damage response and cellular signaling pathways.
Dr. Matic received his Laurea (MSc) in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies from the University of Bologna, Italy in 2005, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry from the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Martinsried, Germany in 2009. He then completed postdoctoral research with Prof. Matthias Mann at the same institute (2009-2010) and as a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Ron Hay at the University of Dundee, Scotland (2010-2014).
Dr. Matic's research primarily investigates post-translational modifications, with a special focus on ADP-ribosylation. His work has been instrumental in discovering serine ADP-ribosylation as a key modification in DNA damage response. His laboratory develops innovative chemical biology approaches and antibody-based tools to study these modifications. His research bridges biochemistry, proteomics, and cell biology to understand fundamental cellular processes.
Dr. Matic's publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on protein modifications, particularly ADP-ribosylation and ubiquitination. His recent work has expanded into understanding how these modifications regulate chromatin structure, DNA repair, and cellular responses to stress and infection. The research shows increasing sophistication in methodology, from basic proteomic identification to developing specialized tools for detection and manipulation of specific modifications.
Dr. Matic has received several prestigious awards:
- 2018: EMBO Young Investigator
- 2015: Frontiers Innovator Award from the Wellcome Trust, UK
- 2008: EMBO short-term fellowship
Dr. Matic has secured significant third-party funding for his research, including an ERC Consolidator Grant (2021-2026) for the nbPTMs project and the CECAD Group Leader programme grant (2014-2022). He has mentored several researchers, including Dr. Bonfiglio who received a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship under his supervision. Dr. Matic also serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group journal).
As Head of the Proteomics Core Facility, Dr. Matic oversees advanced proteomic technologies and collaborates with numerous research groups at the Max Planck Institute. His laboratory combines biochemical, proteomic, and cell biological approaches to investigate protein modifications and their roles in cellular physiology and disease.
