Ivan Kozyatnyk is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Science and Technology (ITN), affiliated with the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE). His research focuses on environmental engineering, water treatment technologies, and advanced material science, particularly involving biochar, hydrochars, and activated carbon. Kozyatnyk's work addresses challenges in contaminant removal from water and air, leveraging sustainable materials and processes.
His research interests include the synthesis and characterization of carbon-based adsorbents, optimization of filtration systems for emerging contaminants, and the application of renewable materials like microalgae and lignin. He has contributed to studies on volatile organic compound emissions from biomass cooking stoves in rural Kenya and the development of greywater remediation methods using biochar and plant proteins.
Recent publications highlight innovations in adsorption mechanisms, catalytic materials for hydrogen peroxide electrosynthesis, and the environmental assessment of carbonaceous adsorbents. His interdisciplinary approach bridges materials science with environmental sustainability, aiming to advance practical solutions for water quality and energy systems.
Kozyatnyk's research also explores regeneration techniques for saturated activated carbon and the valorization of waste-derived carbon materials, emphasizing circular economy principles. He collaborates internationally, contributing to projects such as the Linköping Composite Laboratory and leveraging the university’s supercomputing resources (Berzelius) for materials modeling.
