Isobel Sewell

Isobel Sewell is a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia, holding concurrent positions in the School of Biological Sciences, School of Molecular Sciences, UWA Oceans Institute, and School of Agriculture and Environment, while also serving as Casual Teaching staff across multiple disciplines.

Dr. Sewell's research focuses on sustainable aquaculture development through insect-derived protein alternatives, specifically investigating black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) products to replace fish meal in aquafeeds. Her work addresses critical resource challenges by developing circular economy solutions for protein security, directly contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals for Zero Hunger and Life Below Water. She examines growth performance metrics and environmental impacts of alternative protein sources in freshwater systems.

Her doctoral research established foundational work on insect protein applications in aquaculture, demonstrating viable pathways to reduce reliance on natural resources while maintaining nutritional efficacy.
