Ismini Pells is a Lecturer and Course Director for the Advanced Diploma in Local History at the University of Oxford's Department for Continuing Education. She previously held postdoctoral roles at the University of Leicester (as Project Manager for the Civil War Petitions project) and the University of Exeter (Wellcome Trust-funded medical practitioners research). Her PhD from the University of Cambridge (2014) focused on Philip Skippon, commander of the New Model Army.
Her research examines military and medical aspects of the British Civil Wars, with emphasis on trauma, resilience, and institutional histories. Publications include a monograph on Skippon and an edited volume on military history approaches. She actively engages with historical organizations such as the Cromwell Association, Army Records Society, and National Army Museum advisory panels.
Her work combines interdisciplinary analysis of conflict's societal impacts, medical practices, and political symbolism. Notable contributions include studies on child trauma representation, artillery company transformations post-Restoration, and petitions from wounded soldiers.
