Isabelle Martin is an Associate Professor at the School of Industrial Relations (École de relations industrielles) within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Université de Montréal. She holds a strategic role as Director of the Michael D. Penner Institute on ESG and is a member of the CRIMT research center. Her work focuses on labor law, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the evolving dynamics of worker protections in globalized and fragmented workplaces.
Research Interests:
- Legal frameworks governing transnational labor rights
- Role of ESG and CSR in regulating multinational enterprises
- Impact of digital platforms and franchising on labor rights
- Worker dignity and judicial responses to forced labor
- Power imbalances in employer-worker relationships
Grants & Collaborations:
- Lead co-researcher on Social Innovation Processes in Multinational Companies (FRQSC, 2020–2025)
- Key contributor to the CRIMT strategic research group (FRQSC-funded)
- Projects analyzing labor law in mining, franchising, and digital platforms
Advising: Supervised over 10 master’s theses focusing on labor law issues such as workplace surveillance, forced labor litigation, and employment termination protections.
Labs/Teams: Active in the CRIMT network and the Penner Institute, collaborating with international researchers on transnational labor governance.
