Prof. Dr. Isabella Löhr is a historian of global and international history, currently serving as a Professor of International History of the 20th Century at Freie Universität Berlin and head of the Department of Globalization in a Divided World at the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam (ZZF). She co-leads the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1604 project on refugee-related figures since the 1970s and contributes to reflexive migration studies and knowledge production research.
- PhD in Comparative Cultural and Social History from Universität Leipzig (2008)
- Habilitation in Modern and Contemporary History at Philipps-Universität Marburg (2021)
Her research spans migration and mobility, international law, humanitarian aid, and global history. Key themes include the juridification of international relations, historical globalization, and transnational academic networks. Her recent publications address moral economies in migration knowledge and the entangled history of refugee categories.
Löhr oversees projects like STEPPE (Scaling the Transnational) and the Inventar der Migrationsbegriffe, funded by the BMBF and DFG. She previously led a Volkswagen Foundation-funded junior research group at IMIS Osnabrück and has held positions at institutions including GWZO Leipzig, Europainstitut Basel, and Heidelberg University.
