Isabel Kimpel is a Scientific Associate and Researcher in Medieval History at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU), affiliated with the Historical Seminar and focusing on the Late Middle Ages. She was a Lecturer at Heidelberg University’s History Department from October 2021 to December 2024 and has been a doctoral candidate at LMU since August 2021, supervised by Prof. Dr. Julia Burkhardt. Previously, she worked as a Research Assistant in the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences’ project on High Middle Ages monasteries (2020-2024).

Research Interests: Medieval monastic and religious history, codicology, and editorial studies. Her dissertation investigates Caesarius of Heisterbach’s writings, including miracle stories, sermons, and hagiographies, emphasizing his role as a commentator on 13th-century cultural and theological developments.
Publications and Collaborations: She co-edited Experiencing Spirituality (2024) and contributed essays on sensory history, canonical communities, and women’s convent manuscripts. Her earlier work includes a co-authored analysis of Caesarius’ theological applications and reviews of monastic architectural research.
Science Communication: Isabel participated in the podcast 'Sagenhafter Odenwald' (2024), discussing Hildegund/Josef von Schönau, showcasing her engagement in public history.
