His research examines intersections between religion and law through case studies such as workplace accommodations, reproductive rights, and urban soundscapes. Notable projects include analyzing the EEOC’s approach to religious practices in employment and the role of sound in defining religious pluralism. Weiner has contributed to interdisciplinary discussions on sensory methodologies in religious studies, emphasizing auditory and material dimensions of belief systems.
His grants and collaborations include the Henry Luce Foundation-supported American Religious Sounds Project, which uses digital tools to map sonic expressions of American religious life. Weiner’s academic leadership extends to directing a university center and co-editing scholarly volumes that situate religious studies within contemporary legal and cultural debates.
