Holger Schulze is a full Professor in Musicology at the University of Copenhagen and Principal Investigator at the Sound Studies Lab. He co-edits the Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Sound Studies and founded the Sound Studies book series. His research explores sonic anthropology through urban soundscapes, digital media, and everyday listening practices.
As a scholar-artist, Schulze investigates sensory politics in works like The Sonic Persona (2018) and Meme Music (2026, under contract). His recent projects analyze pandemic soundscapes, voice assistants, and sonic futures via ERC grants. Edited works include the Bloomsbury Handbook of Sound Art (2020) and the Encyclopedia of the Anthropocene (2025).
His 15 most recent publications span meme music's cultural impact, functional sound design, and digital sound epistemologies. Key themes include: sensory withdrawal in urban environments, algorithmic sound politics, and the meme vortex's addictive qualities.
