معرفی
Isaac Ming-Cheng Chiu is a Professor of Immunology at Harvard Medical School, where he leads groundbreaking research at the intersection of neuroscience and immunology. His work investigates bidirectional neuro-immune interactions in pain, host defense, and tissue immunity through mechanistic studies in skin, gut, and central nervous system models.
- Education: A.B. in Biochemistry (Harvard College, 2002), Ph.D. in Immunology (Harvard Medical School, 2009)
- Postdoctoral Training: Molecular and Cell Biology (Harvard University) and Neurobiology (Boston Children’s Hospital, FM Kirby Center)
His research has uncovered novel mechanisms of bacterial pathogen-brain communication, neuropeptide signaling in mucosal immunity, and gasdermin-mediated neurodegeneration. Key contributions include defining sensory neuron-immune cell synapses and discovering direct microbial activation of nociceptors.
Major Scientific Awards:
- NIH Director’s New Innovator Award
- Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigators in Pathogenesis Award
- Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative Ben Barres Early Career Award
His publications across Cell, Nature, and Science demonstrate leadership in neurogastroenterology and neuroinflammatory disease research. Current projects focus on microbiota-brain-immune circuits and novel therapeutic targets for chronic pain and neurodegenerative disorders.
