Irving Bigio

Irving Bigio is Affiliate Faculty and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, developing optical technologies for minimally-invasive diagnostics and surgery. His research creates tools for cancer detection, neural imaging, and surgical guidance.

Research focuses on:

• Elastic scattering spectroscopy for cancer margin delineation
• Birefringence microscopy for neural and myelin imaging
• Optical coherence tomography for brain mapping
• Real-time intraoperative tissue characterization
