Irma Meijerman is an Associate Professor in Pharmacology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Science, with additional roles as Principal Fellow at the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). She serves as Chair of the EuroSoTL-network and was previously Vice President Europe of the International Society for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) from 2022-2024.
Dr. Meijerman specializes in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), with particular expertise in teacher professional development in higher education. Her educational work includes founding initiatives like the Utrecht SoTL-conference, a special interest group on SoTL, and SoTL-grants. She co-authored the widely used Utrecht Roadmap for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (UR-SoTL) and leads a three-year project funded by the Utrecht Education Incentive Fund called 'Get started and keep going with SoTL!'
Her research spans both educational scholarship and pharmacology/toxicology. She teaches primarily in drug toxicology and preclinical drug development, with her master course 'Drug Toxicity and Communication' recognized as the most outstanding master Pharmacy course for the 2021-2022 academic year. Her publication record spans educational research and pharmacological studies on drug interactions, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology.
Dr. Meijerman holds a background in Environmental Hygiene from Wageningen University and a PhD in Toxicology from Leiden University. She has extensive experience in both academic teaching and pharmaceutical research, having worked at Numico Research in oncology (1999-2001) before transitioning to her current academic roles.
