Iris Würbel

Iris Würbel is a PhD Candidate and Research Associate at the Division of General Education within the Department of Education and Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin. She has held this research position since March 2019, including a research and teaching stay at University College Cork, Ireland in October 2021. Her scholarly work centers on children's experiences during societal crises, with particular focus on subjective well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic and perceptions of refugee children.

Würbel earned her Master of Arts in Educational Sciences from Freie Universität Berlin, with a thesis examining preschoolers' social images of refugee children and the impact of intergroup contact. Previously, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Psychology and Human Resources at Harz University of Applied Sciences.

Her research employs interdisciplinary multi-method approaches to investigate how children experience and cope with societal crises. Her dissertation project "Childhoods in Societal Crises: A Multi-Method/Multi-Data Study within Crisis Research Focused on Children's Subjective Well-Being" addresses three key research questions regarding children's intergroup attitudes toward refugee peers, dimensions of subjective well-being during pandemics, and construction of children's spaces of well-being.

Würbel is an active academic community member, serving on the examination board of the Master study program in educational sciences as a representative of academic staff interests since July 2019. She maintains memberships in the CUWB (Children's Understanding of Well-Being) Network and the German Educational Research Association (GERA).
