Iris Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Community Psychology from Georgia State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Emory University. Her roles include teaching graduate courses such as Program Evaluation and Substance Abuse, and coordinating the Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) Southeast Resource Team. She oversees a team providing training and technical assistance to SAMHSA state grantees across 12 states and territories.

Her research focuses on substance abuse prevention/treatment, program evaluation, and juvenile justice. She has led studies on prenatal drug exposure and interventions for substance-abusing women and children. She serves on advisory boards for organizations like the National Association for Children of Alcoholics and the Dekalb County Center for Torture and Trauma Survivors.
Prior roles include Director of National Evaluation Services at the American Cancer Society and Deputy Commissioner at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Her expertise spans addiction, public health policy, and systemic intervention programs.
