Prof. Dr. Iris Hermann holds the Professorship for Modern German Literature at Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg. She is deeply engaged in German-language literature from Luther to the present day, with a distinctive focus on German-language Jewish literature, classical modernism, and the 19th century. Her work is closely linked to the university's Judaic Studies and Interreligious Studies programs, and she maintains international partnerships with Meiji University in Tokyo and the University of Łódź.
Her research bridges disciplines, exploring the intersection of German Studies with European and non-European philologies. She actively integrates poetry slam, multilingual literary practices, and trans poetics into her academic framework. The professorship supports the Germanistisch-literarische Universitätstheater (GLUT), which stages productions like Zug and DvT.2, often in collaboration with visiting poets such as Robert Schindel, Clemens J. Setz, and Yoko Tawada.
