Dr Irina Petrova is a Lecturer in the Politics of Eurasia at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London. Her research focuses on Political Science, Policy and Administration, with specializations in the European Union's external policies, Eastern Partnership dynamics, and resilience mechanisms in post-Soviet states. She holds an Orcid identifier 0000-0001-9021-8617 and is affiliated with SSEES' Room 422 in London.
Previously, Dr Petrova served as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the GCRF COMPASS project (University of Kent) and taught at the University of Kent, KU Leuven, and Vesalius College (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). Her work spans international research projects including GCRF AGRE, Horizon-2020 UPTAKE, and Jean Monnet Networks. She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Her research interests emphasize resilience theory, EU-Russia relations, and the socio-political dynamics of Central Eurasia. Recent projects explore community resilience in Belarus, EU policy effectiveness in Eastern Europe, and the evolution of cooperative regional orders. She critiques traditional resilience frameworks while advocating for localized, adaptive governance approaches.
Dr Petrova’s teaching includes courses on EU politics, international relations, and research methods. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges policy analysis with on-the-ground societal complexities in Eurasia.
