Irene Mata

Irene Mata is a Professor of American Studies at Wellesley College with a dual appointment in Women's and Gender Studies. Her academic work focuses on the intersection of Chicana/Latina literature, gender, labor, immigration, and cultural production. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas (on the U.S.-Mexico border), her personal background deeply informs her scholarly perspective.
