Irene Jensen is a Professor of Occupational Health at Karolinska Institutet's Institute of Environmental Medicine, leading the Unit of Intervention and Implementation Research in Occupational Health. She holds Sweden's first professorship in occupational healthcare methods and focuses on improving work environments to enhance health, well-being, and productivity. Her research emphasizes cost-effective interventions for musculoskeletal disorders, stress-related illnesses, and workplace mental health.
Education: BSc in Psychology (Örebro University, 1985), PhD in Medical Science (Karolinska Institutet, 1993), Licentiate in Psychotherapy (2005), and Professorships in Injury Prevention (2004) and Corporate Health (2011). She became a Docent in 1999.
Research interests include implementation science, work-health economics, and evidence-based practice translation. Key projects include the SUN cohort study on student mental health and the development of MediYoga as a rehabilitation method. She collaborates extensively with occupational healthcare providers, employers, and insurers to ensure practical implementation of research findings.
Grants include studies on young employees' return-to-work after mental disorders, bullying in academia, and cost-effectiveness of workplace stress interventions. She chairs national committees and advises EU initiatives on occupational health and chronic back problems.
Labs/Teams: Part of Christina Björklund's research group and leads a practice-based research network for occupational health services. Her work bridges academia and industry to address real-world challenges in workplace health.
