Dr. Irene Alcubilla Troughton is an Assistant Professor in Performance and Technology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Humanities, Department of Media and Culture Studies. Her interdisciplinary research bridges performance studies, media technology, and cognitive science.
Her research examines relational human-robot interaction design through performing arts methodologies, emphasizing embodiment and contextual performance. Current projects investigate movement-based interaction paradigms using participatory workshops with artists and roboticists. Additional research interests include phenomenology, critical disability studies, and queer theory perspectives on technology.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on affective movement, improvisational systems, and alternatives to traditional social robotics paradigms. Recent work in HRI conferences and performance journals establishes novel frameworks for understanding corporeal habits in human-robot relations.
