Irena Swanson is a Professor and Department Head of Mathematics at Purdue University. She holds a B.A. from Reed College (1987) and a Ph.D. from Purdue University (1992). Her research focuses on Commutative Algebra, with contributions to topics like integral closure, primary decompositions, and algebraic structures. She has advised several Ph.D. and Master’s students, including co-advised international collaborations. Her honors include being a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2019) and a Fulbright Fellowship (2018). She has held visiting positions at institutions such as the University of Rome III and the University of Ljubljana. Dr. Swanson serves on editorial boards, including the Journal of Commutative Algebra, and has organized workshops at the Park City Mathematics Institute. Her work spans theoretical research, textbook authorship, and mentorship in academia.
