Dr. Irena Dokli is a Senior Research Associate at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb, Croatia. She is affiliated with the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry and leads research in the Lab for Stereoselective Synthesis and Biocatalysis. Her academic background includes a PhD (2010) and MSc/BSc (2005) from the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Science.
Research Interests: Dokli’s work focuses on organic synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, and liquid crystal materials. Key areas include developing chiral building blocks via biocatalytic methods, studying mesomorphic properties of bent-shaped dimers, and exploring applications of halohydrin dehalogenases. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges organic chemistry with material science.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles highlight her contributions to enantioselective synthesis, liquid crystal phase behavior, and biocatalytic methodologies. Recent trends emphasize fluorinated scaffolds, twist-bend nematic phases, and enzyme-based kinetic resolutions.
Grants & Students: Supervised multiple PhD and Master’s students, including Matija Hromin and Robert Kolman. Her research group actively collaborates on grants exploring enzymatic catalysis and mesophase design.
Lab & Teams: The Lab for Stereoselective Synthesis and Biocatalysis focuses on sustainable organic synthesis and advanced material characterization, combining computational modeling with experimental techniques.
