Andreja Lesac is a Researcher and Head of the Laboratory for Stereoselective Synthesis and Biocatalysis at the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI). She holds a PhD in organic synthesis from Johannes Kepler University (Austria) and RBI (Croatia). Her research focuses on liquid crystalline materials, chiral organic compounds, and mesomorphic systems. Key projects include investigating achiral-to-chiral transitions in liquid crystals and developing novel chiral dopants.
Education: PhD in Organic Synthesis (1993), M.Sc. in Chemistry (1990), Diploma in Chemistry (1986) from the University of Zagreb.
Research interests span organic synthesis, materials chemistry, and the structural-functional relationships in liquid crystals. She leads projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, including 'Chirality from Achiral Liquid Crystals' (2015–present). Recent work explores bent-core mesogens and fluorinated nematogens, emphasizing molecular design and self-assembly.
Publications highlight studies on mesophase behavior, electroclinic effects, and enantioselective synthesis. She advises students on topics like chiral esters and bent-shaped dimers. Her lab focuses on advancing liquid crystal science through interdisciplinary approaches.
