Dr. Iqra Shagufta Cheema is an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Humanities at Graceland University. She holds a PhD in Postcolonial Literatures from the University of North Texas, an M. Phil. and Master's in English from Government College University, Faisalabad, Pakistan, and a Bachelor’s in Economics and Sociology from the University of Central Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. Her research and teaching focus on contemporary literary and cultural studies of the Global South, including 20th/21st-century literature, gender studies, digital cultures, and critical theory.
She is the editor of The Other #MeToos (Oxford University Press, 2023) and co-author of ReFocus: The Films of Annemarie Jacir (Edinburgh University Press, 2023). Her work critically engages with transnational feminism, digital activism, and postcolonial discourse. Dr. Cheema also coordinates the Social Change major at Graceland University, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary education addressing global issues.
Her recent articles explore themes such as global #MeToo movements, Punjabi linguistic identity, and blasphemy in digital spaces. She frequently critiques Western-centric frameworks, advocating for decolonized perspectives in feminism and cultural studies. Her scholarship bridges literary analysis, digital humanities, and sociopolitical critique, emphasizing marginalized voices in Global Majority contexts.
