Iouri Bernache-Assolant is a Lecturer at the Marketing Techniques Department of the IUT (Institut Universitaire de Technologie) of Belfort-Montbéliard, which is part of the University of Franche-Comté in France. His academic background includes a Doctorate in STAPS (Sciences et Techniques des Activités Physiques et Sportives), reflecting his specialized focus on sports-related research.
Dr. Bernache-Assolant's research primarily centers on supporterism and sports psychology, organized around three main axes: (1) refining conditions for mobilizing identity management strategies among spectators, particularly those predisposing to violence; (2) understanding motivations and experience-seeking behaviors of sports spectators across different venues and sports; and (3) examining how group affiliations influence perceptual and behavioral distortions in sports contexts. His work is grounded in social identity perspective (SIP) metatheory, incorporating social identity theory, self-categorization theory, and intergroup emotion theory. He has also tested newer SIP models like the ingroup projection model and imagined intergroup contact theory specifically within supporterism contexts.
His publication record shows a consistent focus on identity management strategies among sports fans, with recent work exploring emotional reactions to team victories and defeats, the role of team identification in legitimizing aggression, and the influence of stereotypes in sports contexts. His research employs comparative methodologies across different sports (rugby, football, tennis) and countries (France, Morocco, England), demonstrating an international perspective on sports psychology phenomena.
Dr. Bernache-Assolant has held various administrative and educational responsibilities at the IUT of Belfort-Montbéliard, including serving as Educational Manager for the TICAMACO professional license program, Head of First-Year Internships, and member of various departmental committees since 2007. He has also served as an expert reviewer for numerous academic journals in psychology, sports management, and social sciences.
