Research Interests: Iosif Kovras specializes in comparative politics, transitional justice, human rights, and international politics. His research explores how societies deal with past political violence, economic crises, and systemic injustice, with a particular focus on truth recovery, forensic investigations, and accountability mechanisms in post-conflict and post-crisis settings. His work combines theoretical innovation with empirical depth, often drawing on case studies from Cyprus, Latin America, and Europe.
Recent Publications & Research Trends: His recent publications reflect a consistent trajectory in examining the politics of memory, silence, and institutional responses to mass victimization. Key themes include the role of forensic science in transitional justice, the impact of economic crises on democratic accountability, and the grassroots mobilization for truth and justice. His 2025 book Accountability after Economic Crisis (Oxford University Press) and his 2017 monograph Grassroots Activism and the Evolution of Transitional Justice (Cambridge University Press) are central contributions to the field.

Additional grants have been awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the British Academy, supporting projects on truth commissions, missing migrants, and ethical research in conflict zones.
