Ionut Ciocan-Fontanine is a Professor in the School of Mathematics at the University of Minnesota. His office is located at 450 Vincent Hall, 206 Church Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455, and he can be reached at ciocan@math.umn.edu or by phone at (612) 625-7801.
His primary research interests include:
- Algebraic geometry
- Moduli spaces
- Gromov-Witten theory
Ciocan-Fontanine has made significant contributions to quasimap theory, which provides new approaches to Gromov-Witten invariants and quantum cohomology. His work bridges algebraic geometry, combinatorics, and mathematical physics, particularly in areas related to mirror symmetry and string theory. He has developed important connections between abelian and nonabelian quotients in quantum cohomology and has extensively researched wall-crossing phenomena in various geometric contexts.
His recent publications show a consistent pattern of high-impact work in top mathematics journals including Journal of the European Mathematical Society and Inventiones Mathematicae. His research spans from theoretical foundations of moduli spaces to practical applications in combinatorics, particularly through his work on hook length formulas and their connections to representation theory.
Professor Ciocan-Fontanine has established himself as a leading figure in modern algebraic geometry through his extensive collaborations, particularly with Bumsig Kim, and his innovative approaches to longstanding problems in enumerative geometry.
