Ioannis Mastrominas is a Researcher in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. A Greek national, he joined the institute as part of the 2023 cohort.
His research focuses on Political Science with specialization in Electoral Studies and Populism. Mastrominas examines the relationship between populist leadership and democratic participation, particularly how the election of populist politicians affects voter turnout patterns. His work intersects with key EUI research themes including democracy, political behavior, and political institutions.
Under the supervision of Professor Elias Dinas with co-supervision by Filip Kostelka, Mastrominas is conducting doctoral research titled "The effect of electing a populist politician on voting turnout". This work contributes to understanding contemporary challenges in democratic governance and citizen political engagement.
