Ioannis Maniatis

Ioannis Maniatis is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Piraeus, where he has served as an Associate Professor since 2002. He concurrently holds a Visiting Professor position at the Institute of Economic Geography of the University of Bonn since 1995. His academic expertise spans Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Energy and Transportation Policies, Environmental Management, and Innovation Management. He has authored over 200 scientific papers and presented at international conferences.

Politically, Maniatis has been actively involved as a Member of the Greek Parliament for Argolida (Panhellenic Socialist Movement/PASOK) from 2004 to 2015, holding multiple ministerial roles, including Minister of Environment, Energy, and Climate Change (2013–2015) and Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy, and Climate Change (2009–2012). He has also served in senior administrative roles such as Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (1998–2001) and Chairman of OASA (Athens Urban Transport Organisation, 2001–2002).

His academic contributions focus on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technology, policy, and environmental sustainability. He maintains affiliations with institutions like IEEE and IMIA and is actively involved in university initiatives, including internship programs and course evaluations.
