Ioannis Kampourakis is an Associate Professor of Law and Markets at the Erasmus School of Law (Erasmus University Rotterdam). His research focuses on the legal foundations of economic power, political economy, and the socio-economic implications of legal frameworks. He co-directs the 'Law and Political Economy in Europe' project and serves as editor of the Law and Political Economy book series (Cambridge UP). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable economic systems and climate action.
Before joining Erasmus, he held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Oxford and Tel Aviv University, and visiting positions at institutions like the University of Glasgow and the Max Planck Institute. He earned a PhD in Law from Freie Universität Berlin, an MA in Public Law from Université Paris I, and an LLB from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
His current research examines the European Green Deal and EU regulation of critical raw materials, supported by a 3-year NWO Veni grant (2023). Key research themes include market instrumentalism, industrial policy, and the legal dimensions of socio-ecological transformation. His work bridges legal theory, political economy, and transnational governance, with publications in Modern Law Review, Regulation & Governance, and Leiden Journal of International Law.
