Insa Müller is an Associate Professor in Cultural Heritage Management at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), affiliated with the Department of Historical and Classical Studies within the Faculty of Humanities. Her work bridges academic research and practical museum applications, focusing on museology, memory studies, and digital heritage. Since 2019, she has served as a special adviser for community dialogue at Stiklestad National Culture Centre.
Her research explores how local history museums adapt to diverse communities through projects like the MeMin initiative, which examines digital technology’s role in cultural dissemination. Key areas include museum practices in remote regions, participatory methodologies, and the intersection of technology with historical memory.
Müller teaches courses such as Introduction to Cultural Heritage Management and supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses. She actively collaborates with museums nationally and internationally, contributing to policy development and ethical guidelines for Norwegian museums. Notable publications include her 2020 monograph The Local Museum in the Global Village, which proposes innovative frameworks for local museums in changing communities.
Her outreach includes organizing seminars like MuSaDel (Museum, Society, Participation) and presenting at conferences across Europe. Müller’s work emphasizes museums as dynamic spaces for dialogue, education, and social cohesion.
